August is Membership and New Club Development Month

In the Beginning...

President Bill gaveled the meeting to order on a smoky Friday in Ojai Valley.  Al West led the salute to the Flag and Leslie Bouche read an eloquent invocation.  Bill then thanked all those whose work made the meeting possible:  the set up team of Matt Clements and Johnny Johnson; the greeters Sid Cohn and Johnny Johnson; Don Reed on the front desk; and finally Ginger Case, without whom lunch would be grim indeed.

Fining with Bill Prather

The hearts of all history buffs raced when Bill Prather announced that his fining session was based upon US Presidential Quotes.  Rotarians were having a good time guessing who said what memorable quote, until Bill called upon Bret Bradigan; at this point, Dr. Frank Finck, ever the realist, reminded Bill that the purpose of the fining session was to raise revenue, and that calling on Bret was a sure loser.  Astute observation Dr. Finck!  Perhaps we should put Bret in a special category?

Program: Grace Malloy of Poco Farms

Patricia Anderson introduced today’s speaker Grace Malloy of Poco Farms.

Grace revealed herself to be a remarkable young woman:  She is the Secretary of the Ojai Grange, runs the Center for Regenerative Agriculture, and puts on a variety of educational activities at the Poco Farm, with the aim of fulfilling her dream of a life filled with homesteading, goats, chickens and traditional skills.

These of Grace’s activities are worth mentioning:

·        She hosts class visits from OUSD
·        She provides farm based education
·        She supports NHS environmental programs
·        She delivers vegetables to OUSD
·        She runs farm tours
·        She teaches homesteading skills

A remarkable young woman indeed!

Closing Remarks

President Bill closed with an ironic thought from Margaret Mead:

“Always remember that you are unique...Just like everyone else”.
