On a lovely spring day, Rotarians gathered to celebrate Arbor Day at Mira Monte School. President Bill gaveled the meeting to order at 11:50, thanked all those whose work made the day possible, and made a few announcements:
Steve Bennett will address next week’s meeting on Foster Care
Tony Thacher has succeeded in getting the movie “Ghost Town to Havana” brought to Ojai for a May 26 showing.
President Bill then turned the gavel to Al West.
Arbor Day Program
Al started by thanking all those who made the program possible:
Marty Baybayco
Superintendent Hank Bangser
Colin and Connor Jones
Principal Kathy White
Food Service Workers Ms. McKesson and Lorraine
Cusrtodians Mr. Gonzales and Mr. Sanchez.
Superintendent Hank then read a proclamation (shortened, thank goodness) and gave the proclamation to Kathy White. The Transitional Kindergarten choir then sang some songs celebrating nature.
Al gave a short history of Sterling Morton and the origins of Arbor Day.
Finally, the moment arrived when two teams of students and Rotarians went to the sites of the tree plantings. Dirt, mulch and water were all put to use in planting a total of 4 trees, (1 Jacaranda and 3 Strawberry).
