Fining: Judy Gabriel
Judy did her usual creative and entertaining job of extracting money from
Rotarians. In this week’s show, Judy displayed photos of Rotarians at a earlier age and then asked the audience to identify and explain. Rotarians highlighted included Matt C., Rob Roddick, Sheila Cluff, Brett Bradigan, Bob Skankey, Bill Prather, Jack Jacobs, Jane Spiller, Berkeley Baker and Dave Brubaker. Good Job Judy: rarely have people enjoyed giving money so much!
Program: Kitty Winn
Brett Bradigan introduced Kitty Winn, acclaimed actress and granddaughter of General George C. Marshall. Brett started by telling a revealing story of how General Marshall insisted upon attention to detail and to cost while running America’ war effort.
Kitty’s presentation was on her grandmother, Katherine Tupper Marshall, a truly remarkable and fascinating woman. Katherine came from a long line of distinguished Kentucky Devines. Katherine was determined to become an actress, despite opposition from her father. Since her father forbade her from acting in the US, she decamped to London to pursue her dream. She was not to be denied!
After many adventures and much hard work, Katherine did eventually become a successful actress on both sides of the Atlantic.
After her first husband died, Katherine met Colonel George Marshall, also a widower, in 1929. According to Kitty, Marshall recognized in Katherine the qualities he admired: courage, vitality of spirit and boundless charm. They were married shortly thereafter.
Kitty Winn held the attention of the audience with her moving and fascinating account of her grandmother’s life. Thank You Kitty!
