The Making of "137 Shots" & "Burning Ojai"

Mike Milano worked 10 years to put together the documentary "137 Shots," the tragic account of Nov. 29, 2012 shooting of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams. After a 22-minute car chase, the pair was cornered in a school parking lot and shot 137 times, including more than 40 times by one officer, Michael Brelo.

The documentary is receiving acclaim on Netflix, where it has been nominated for an Emmy award.

Milano, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, knew personally many of the people involved and set to work showing both sides of the tragedy, the subsequent reaction and uproar, and the fallout. While working on the documentary, he moved to Ojai just days before the hills of upper Ojai burst into flames with the Thomas Fire. Milano and his wife Noemie stopped work on "137 Shots" and filmed live action of the fire for "Burning Ojai," which was bought by HBO and has become the definitive account of the wildfire, at the time the largest in California history.
