September is Basic Education and Literacy Month

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
In the Beginning...
Patricia Anderson  greeted us warmly as we zoomed in to join our meeting.  Bill Prather suggested that club members having trouble hearing our zoom meetings, try a pair of Apple Earbuds (or their equivalent).  They work beautifully!
President Michael Scar called the meeting to order.   Bill Prather led us in the flag salute and Cheree Edwards gave us a thoughtful invocation by Mother Theresa:
The fruit of silence is prayer.
The fruit of prayer is faith.
The fruit of faith is love.
The fruit of love is service.
The fruit of service is peace.
Bob Skankey congratulated us for receiving the Platinum Club Award for 2019-2020….we are the best club on the Planet!
Therese Brown announced upcoming meetings to look forward to.

Don Reed announced that the Ed Foundation will be meeting via Zoom next Tuesday 9/9/20 at 4:00 p.m.
Mike Weaver announced the Peace Committee will be held via Zoom 9/10/20 at 5:30 p.m.
Bob Davis reminded us that that only one country still has Polio.  Help eradicate polio and send your check in.
We mourned the passing of long time previous Rotarian, Cal Wadsworth.

Dr. John Alden “Cal” Wadsworth, died on August 25, 2020 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio where he had been a resident for several years. He was born on March 5, 1935 in Fremont, Ohio to the late Dr. Alden J. Wadsworth and Helen (Gilmore) Wadsworth. Cal graduated from Fremont Ross High School, University of Toledo and The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.

He was an avid “Buckeye” and a dedicated patriot and student of American Christian History. He served as a Lt. Commander in the U. S. Navy Dental Corps and opened his private dental practice in Ojai, CA in 1965, caring for residents of the community until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Ojai Rotary Club, the Academy of General Dentistry and the International Academy of Gnathology. While in California, Cal enjoyed sailing and backpacking in the High Sierras with family and friends. He achieved a leadership level in the Amway Business and affected the lives of many Independent Business Owners across the country. He was a member of the Sacramento (CA) Banjo Band and the Kettering (OH) Banjo Band.
