Randy Roth, Editor

August is Membership and New Club Development Month

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

Introduction

President Michael brought the meeting to order at 12:05 and thanked those who contributed to the meeting:  Patricia for greeting; Larry for the Pledge; Dewayne for the invocation; and Tara for technical support.

Rotary Humor

Fining by Colin Jones

Colin did his usual excellent job of extracting money from our members by asking obscure questions about events in History that happened in August.  Some of Colin’s topics were:  Hurricane Katrina; Princess Diana; Susan B. Anthony; Marilyn Monroe; and the Macarena.

Program:  Jennifer Berry of the CREW

Our new member Jennifer Berry, ED of The CREW, introduced herself to the club.

Her presentation was light-hearted and entertaining as she touched upon the major chapters of her life.  She was born in Ukiah, near the giant redwood trees and experienced the dislocation that came from the end of the logging industry in that area.

She did her undergrad work at Long Island University, a school that had only international campuses, so she spent time in such places as Taiwan, India, Turkey, Costa Rica, Peru, etc. etc. She did her grad work at UCSB.

After college, she worked at a number of outdoor educational initiatives around the State.  Finally, she arrived in Ojai where she is now the ED of The CREW.

Jennifer will give another presentation in October more focused on the work of The CREW.

Dismissal

President Michael dismissed the group by quoting Ghandi:

“An eye for an eye makes the world blind”
