May is Youth Service Month

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

Introduction...

The Ojai Rotary club met via zoom on May 29, the last Friday of the month, for a remote evening session of food and frivolity.  No coronavirus will dissuade us from fellowship and fun!

The festivities started at Bocalli’s for take out, where we feasted upon Dewayne and Marilyn’s delicious offerings.  Later, Betsy Watson presided over a rousing game of Scavenger Hunt.

Scavenger Hunt

President Cheree turned the meeting over the Betsy Watson, who proceeded to run the club through 12 different iterations of scavenger hunts.  Rotarians had two minutes to find such items as:
  • A slide rule
  • A refrigerator magnet from a foreign country
  • A joke book
  • A cherry pittter
  • A picture with a farm animal
  • A bottle of champagne and other miscellaneous geegaws..
Betsy outdid herself in her creativity and the Rotarians responded with their usual competitiveness.  When the scores were tallied, the Team Scar was crowned the winner, with Fred F., Ian M, and Kathy Yee tied for second place.  Congratulations to the winners!

Finale by Dewayne Bocalli

After the hard-fought competition, DeWayne Bocalli sought to sooth the savage beasts of the competitors by singing some old favorites:
  • Back in the Saddle again
  • Happy Trails to you
  • El Paso
