Our 1.4 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
At our Jan. 26th meeting Co-President Carl gaveled the meeting to order. Dave Brubaker graciously accepted our lunch donations. Christine Fenn led us in the pledge of allegiance while Leslie Bouche gave us the “The Greatest Gift”
\The Greatest Gift
'It flies on wings, powerful unstoppable
It flows and rushes; tumbles and spins
Expands, contracts
Sometimes creeping so very slowly – and then flies onagain
At times It yells
Then whispers softly from behind
Pay attention… pay attention!
It is the Great Trickster
The Grand Illusion…
It is the Greatest Gift
Even as It slips through our fingers
We cannot hold on to It
And yet It is ours
To use
We use It well when we love and connect, work and play
Laugh and weep
Rest and dream
And when we serve from the heart
Open your eyes…
Then open your Other Eyes
Embrace this Gift with awe and reverence
For while we count It and measure It
We never know how much we have
This precious Gift we call Time"
