November 6th, 2020

Suzanne Scar, Editor

November is Rotary Foundation Month

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

In the beginning...

At 12:10 President Michael Scar announced the commencement of the first zoom meeting of November 2020.

Larry Beckett led us in the flag salute and Tara Saylor gave us one of her favorite passages from college:

“You haven't yet opened your heart fully, to life, to each moment. The peaceful warrior's way is not about invulnerability, but absolute vulnerability--to the world, to life, and to the Presence you felt. All along I've shown you by example that a warrior's life is not about imagined perfection or victory; it is about love. Love is a warrior's sword; wherever it cuts, it gives life, not death.”

― Dan Millman

President Michael thanked Tara Saylor for facilitating our meeting,  Patricia Anderson as the greeter for the week, Larry Beckett for the flag salute, Tara Saylor for the invocation and Suzanne Scar as Reminder Editor (which reminded Suzanne she was the Editor).

Rotarian Visitors and Guests

Greg Webster introduced Candace Alexander as his “special” guest.  We look forward to welcoming her into the greatest Club we know.

Rotary Survey Question...

Fining and Confessions:

Fine Master, Red Adam asked that all members owing confession and fining dollars please send in their money.

The confessions today were:

Tiffany Morse donated $45 and thanked the people of Ojai for passing Measure K;

Bill Gilbreth donated $20 for his birthday and quoted one of his favorites….something like “Do not go gentle into old age….RAGE!”

Greg Webster donated $45 for having two kids that are lucky enough to grow up in the Ojai Valley.

Program: Jason Love

From 2008 to present, Jason Love has worked as a standup comedian, performing more than 200 times per year for comedy clubs, corporations, and cruise ships. Hsuch as Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Norwegian, and Carnival.

Jason Love has since worked full-time as a standup comedian, performing for comedy clubs, corporations, cruise ships, and private parties.

Jason runs a non-profit, Love & Laughter, that brings free standup comedy shows to cancer support locations across the country.[2][3]

In 2017 he recorded a Dry Bar Comedy special called Jokes On Me.[4]

His second special, Professional Moron, was produced by 800 Pound Gorilla and airs daily on Pandora and Sirius XM.

Since COVID-19, Jason has produced a popular virtual show, Live Comedy in Your Living Room, which features professional comics performing live from around the country.

From Wikipedia..

Comedian Jason Love gave us an afternoon of laughs.  Being 2020 and an election year (and a very stressful week of electing) he could have not been more timely.  If we are ever back to meeting in groups, Jason is a great entertainer for any business event or party.

Final Thoughts by President Michael:

"Peace is a journey of a thousand miles and it must be taken one step at a time."

— Lyndon B. Johnson
