Ojai Rotary Reminder Newsletter
February 18th, 2022

Andy Gilman, Editor

February is Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution Month

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

In the beginning...

Betsy Watson, President of RCO kicked off the meeting, welcoming guests and members.

Marty Babayco shared his gratitude in a heartfelt invocation:

Grateful
By Marty Babayco

Let us be
Grateful today for being able to meet in person
To be able to sit across from one another and share a meal together
To see our faces (without a mask or a Zoom monitor)
To catch up with one another
To share our stories, talk of our joys and our sorrows
To talk about our children and our significant others
To interrupt and laugh out loud
To make plans together for the future

Today, let us be
Grateful for this club and its members and especially our new members
Grateful for our beautiful community in which we live
Grateful that we have helped each other weather this pandemic together
Grateful that we are mindful that in Service Above Self, we have so much to do
And… Grateful that as Rotarians, we will continue to seek and faithfully fulfill our obligations as neighbors to our community, our nation, and our world.

Today, I am grateful… for all of you

Thanks to greeters Kathy Yee, fining Tony Thacher, reminder editor Andy Gilman, room setup Bill Prather, Carl for photography. Thank-You for making our meetings special and memorable.

On this day in 1885 Mark Twain published the "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”.

Announcements

Indoor mask mandate is lifted for vaccinated people. I encourage
you to continue your safety measures of staying home when you
have symptoms, consistent hand washing, and keeping some
distance between us. I welcome your choice to continue to mask if
that is in your comfort zone or if you haven’t taken the vaccine.

Living Treasure ballot nominations going out soon. Please think of who
you will nominate, to recognize our local heroes who go above and
beyond in their lives of community service. Visit our Living Treasures website at: RCOLT.org to see a short video of last year's LT induction ceremonies, download a paper ballot, and vote!

Halbrook are in charge of volunteers.

Kathy Yee: Walk for Kids fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House April 24

Cheree and Greg: Membership news and Blue Badges

Blue Badge Presentations: Cheree Edwards and Greg Webster for Fern Barishman, Renee Halbrook and Kevin Davis.

The Program: Erik Wilde-State of Real Estate in Ojai

Erik Wilde of LIV Sotheby’s gave an update on the state of Real Estate in the Ojai Valley.

The big takeaway from Erik’s presentation is that Ojai is clearly a seller’s market, and that if someone is interested in buying a home they should act now. Further, given COVID, it is unclear how to predict future housing prices.

Final Thoughts...
