Ojai Rotary Reminder Newsletter
October 7th, 2022

Suzanne Scar, Editor

October is Economic and Community Development Month

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

Please bless this food we are about to share, those who prepared it, those who serve it, and those who have worked to make today the special occasion that it is.

Thank you for our individuality and for our common bond as Rotarians.  It is good to recognize how different we are in our talents, oru dreams, our backgrounds, and our occupations.  Through our differences and desire to serve, we can move toward common goals.  Help us look forward with vision and maintain an abundant sense of humor.

As we share this meal, let us be mindful of the words of Mark Twain:

"Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Sing like nobody's listening.
Dance like nobody's watching.
Live like it's heaven on earth." Amen

Many thanks to:

The Program: Robin Gerber and The Shot

Bret Bradigan introduced Author Robin Gerber and her journey of how a local author’s play has gone from Ojai to New York.  Robin gave a fascinating presentation on how she created the story/Play “The Shot” (about Katherine Graham’s life).

Katharine Meyer Graham was an American newspaper publisher. She led her family's newspaper, The Washington Post, from 1963 to 1991. Graham presided over the paper as it reported on the Watergate scandal, which eventually led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Wikipedia

Ms. Gerber went from the Ojai Playwrights Conference, though a successful run in the Berkshires to being accepted into the prestigious New York Theater Festival….all during Covid. For more information, click here.

Robin, thank you for your talents and shining a light on a remarkable woman, and your persistence in these challenging times.
