Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.4 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

In the beginning

On a cool early spring day, Rotary Co-President Bill Prather called Rotarians together for service and fellowship.  Fern Barishman tickled the ivories and made hearts race with her boogie-woogie favorites.  Bill thanked all those whose contribution made the meeting possible.

Cheree Edwards Birthday

To the delight of all, Cheree and Don Edwards were present to celebrate Cheree’s birthday.  Birthday cake and song ensued while every Rotarians’ heart swelled with affection for the stalwart Cheree.  Emotions overflowed and there was a chorus of “We love you Cheree!”

Rotarian of the Month

Bill announced that Dave Watson was the Rotarian of the Month.  Dr. Dave has been tireless in his efforts to manage the scholarship evaluation process.  His patience, diligence and competence are an inspiration to all.  Richly deserved Dave!

Service above self award

Bill Hatch presented the “Service above self” award to Madelein Taylor. Madelein’s teacher described her as a student who always asks “how can I help?”

Upcoming Programs
A sleep-deprived Jack Jacobs gave use a preview of upcoming programs:
  • Casey Roddick will give us his views on life in the NFL
  • Al West will preside over Arbor Day at Mesa Farms.
Once tax season is over, Jack will return as his normal self.

Fining with Bob and Liz Eisler
Bob and Liz did a splendid job of extracting filthy lucre from Rotarians by asking questions about the admissibility of some pretty far-fetched tax donations.  Good work Bob and Liz!

Program:  Stu Crowner

r
Stu, Ojai resident and veteran of Hollywood told us some amusing and moving anecdotes about
some Hollywood notables:  Audrey Hepburn, Red Skelton, Larry King, Carol Burnett, etc.
Bill sent us off with a quote from JFK:  “Every person can make a difference, and every person should try”.
