Bill Gilbreth, Editor

February is Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention Month

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

In the Beginning…

President Cheree gaveled the meeting to order shortly after noon – and welcomed all of us to “the best Rotary Club I know.” She invited Marc Whitman to lead the flag salute and Leslie Bouche to give an Invocation, and then recessed the meeting for lunch – asking that we escort our guests to the buffet table.

Appreciation…

At 12:30 President Cheree invited everyone to continue with lunch while she thanked Fred Coleman and Bill Prather for room setup, Ren Adams for Desk Duty, Terry Beckett for A/V setup,  Sue Gilbreth for serving as our Greeter, Marc for the flag salute, Leslie for the invocation, Marc for chaperoning the roving mike, Carl Gross for continuing to serve as our photographer extraordinaire, your obedient servant as the Reminder Editor, and – most of all – Ginger, for our lunch and her continued good cheer.

Welcomes…

President Cheree then welcomed our many guests – including our Student of the Month, his family and Principal and the several Living Treasures we are honoring today. There followed these announcements:

Announcements…
Yours truly announced next month’s programs and speakers – Kay Bliss and Leslie Bouche, who, on March 6th, will tell us about the Club’s International projects, the second and third graders who will present a Bravo Music program on March 13th, a report of the Civil Grand Jury on March 20th, and an off-site luncheon meeting at the Hospital’s new Continuing Care facility on March 27th.

Betsy Watson reminded us of the Club’s March 12th invitation to meet for pizza at Topa Winery’s Tasting Room, followed by this year’s Nordhoff musical, Legally Blonde. She asked that all those planning to attend bring checks to next week’s meeting.

Judy Gabriel invited people to tour Meditation Mount.

Fining…

In lieu of Fining, President Cheree invited a number of Confessions….

Living Treasures…

Bret Bradigan reminded us that the Living Treasures program, chaired by Dr. Fred Fauvre, was founded by Sanford Drucker – a Rotarian, World War II hero and activist who worked tirelessly to bring peace through compassion and understanding.

To repeated and tumultuous applause we then recognized, and heard brief remarks from, those selected as this year’s Living Treasures:

Stephen Adams.
Connie Biggers.
Glen Fout.
Lanny Kaufer.
John Mirk.

Closing….

President Cheree concluded the meeting at 1:30 – with the following remarks:

            Life is like a camera…
            Focus on what’s important
            Capture the good times
            Develop from the negatives
And if things don’t work out
            Take another shot!
