In the Beginning....
In honor of Veteran’s Day, Don Reed lead the club through a touching Memorial Tribute to those who served. Additionally, Don shared that the 48 star American flag that was hung in the room was the one that was draped on his uncle’s coffin after serving for our country.
The meeting was called to order at 12:30 PM. President Gilbreth thanked Don Reed for his tribute and remarks. Matt Clements was thanks for set up. The greeters were thanked as well as Yolanda Flores as roving mic and Randy Roth for manning the front table. Ginger was on vacation so Debbie was thanked for serving lunch!
President Gilbreth welcomed visiting Rotarian Newby Werrick and guests: Sue Reed, Rod Owen, Fred Coleman, Susan Kapadia, Jess Kapadia, Alex Ameter, Will Cole, Emily Cole and Bryant Huber.

Announcements:
Terry Beckett presented a Paul Harris +2 to Cheree Edwards.
President Gilbreth presented a brief report on the club’s November 9th Board Meeting:
1) President Elect Mike Malone has formed a Nominating Committee with: Marty Babayco, Cheree Edwards, Suzanne Scar, and Al West to join with him in coming up with a proposed slate of officers and directors for our 2016-2017 Rotary Year. A full slate is expected to be proposed at the Board meeting next month.
2) Kay Bliss and her Youth Services Committee is busily preparing for next month’s Career Day for the Nordhoff freshman class.
3) Colin Jones, as Chairman of our Vocational Services Committee, is looking at ways in which we may assist Veterans, and help people get jobs.
4) Betsy Watson, and her committee, have further specified the details for Family Membership - a category President Gilbreth believes is of growing importance.
5) Nathan Kaehler and President Gilbreth briefed the Board on the progress being made on the Matilija Pavilion Project. Hank Bangser was thanked for the progress being made in this area.
Pradeep Kapadia announced that the STEPS Conference (Steps to Eliminate Poverty Sustainably is planned for January 28th, 9 AM to 3 PM in Thousand Oaks at Cal Lutheran University. He reminded us that the club pays for the registration fee. Click on above link for more information.
President Gilbreth reported that we will be having our holiday party on Thursday, December 8th. The weekday was selected so as to avoid conflicts with other social events in the community. The party will be from 6PM to 8PM at President Gilbreth’s home.

Wendy Barker led Fining & Confessions. The theme was Veteran’s Day.
Program:
Pradeep Kapadia proudly our Speaker (Pradeep’s son-in-law) Army Captain Alex Ameter. Captain Ameter served our country in both Korea and Afghanistan .
Captain Ameter shared that knowledge of Veteran’s actions is one the key things that can be done to honor our Veteran’s. In his presentation, he shared the complex challenges that our troops face in rebuilding Afghanistan. Most notably, that there is no discernible metric for nation building. Additionally, Captain Ameter shared that the top three challenges in Afghanistan are: 1) Ethnicity and its role, 2) Corruption, 3) Outside “actors” while the top three challenges for the US in Afghanistan are: 1) Reporting Roadblocks, 2) Evaluations (mostly being quantitative and not qualitative) and 3) Sustainability (teaching the Afghan Troops to be independent)
President Gilbreth thanked Captain Ameter for his presentation and presented him with a box of Pixies from Friends Ranch.
