Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.4 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
In the beginning…
Former President Kay Bliss called the meeting to order and invited Rotarians to fellowship and service. Wendy Barker led the flag salute and Christine Golden recited a poem about trees in honor of Al West.

Program: Robert Murithi on Cancer screening in rural Kenya
Lisa Elliot-Rosas introduced Robert Murithi, today’s speaker. Robert made an eloquent and heartfelt presentation about his mission to provide cancer screening and treatment services to the women of rural Kenya.
Robert was motivated to take on this mission by witnessing his mother’s death from cervical cancer, leaving him to take on the responsibility of raising his younger brothers and sisters. Robert transferred his pain into purpose: he founded the Naledi Initiative, which has provided measurable, life-changing improvement to thousands of women across Kenya.
Robert is active in Rotary International District 9212. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Business Management from Meru University of Science and Technology.
Final Thoughts
Kay ended the meeting by giving us words of wisdom:
“Ignore what they are thinking of you—because they are not thinking of you”
“Don’t believe everything you think you believe”
“Writing down one thing you are grateful for each day is the cheapest possible therapy ever”
You are invited to visit us at an upcoming meeting.
