At 12:10 President Bill Gilbreth rang the bell to commence the beginning of another great and sunny Rotary meeting.
Jenny Owen led us in the flag salute and Sid Cohen gave us a thoughtful invocation. We escorted our guests and ourselves to the buffet for a scrumptious sandwich and salad arrangement.
At 12:30 President Bill rang the bell again to thank Matt Clements, Rob Owen and Bill Prather for setting up the room for our meeting, Bryant Huber for AV set up, Jeff Loebl and Rob Roddick for warmly greeting all of our members and guests, Matt Clements for the roving mic, Randy Roth for manning the front table, Suzanne Scar for serving as the Reminder Editor and Ginger Case for hosting us.
Our guests this week were Paul Jenkin (speaker) introduced by Sandy Buechley. Ian introduced his son, Douglas from Atlanta. Patricia T. Anderson introduced her special guest, Fred Coleman and Don Scanlin introduced his grandson Greg D’Angelo.
The announcements for this meeting were:
Nominations for Living Treasures are due March 6.
Scholarship applications are due March 17th.
District Training Session are Saturday, April 1 in Oxnard.
Community Grant applications are due by March 31. Applications are on line.
Mike Weaver handed out Mardi Gras beads and invited us to celebrate with Ventura South Rotary on the 26th at the Oxnard Tower.
Bob Roddick gets a Blue Badge
We joined in honoring Robert Roddick while Betsy Watson presented Rob with his Blue Badge. Congratulations Rob!
Fining: Fine Master, Bruce Brockman asked for confessions and Sandy Buechley admitted to her 34th anniversary at Patagonia… along with other dicey confessions from our club members. Bruce then entertained us by playing Zodiac roulette with fellow Rotarians. Very fun!
Matilija Dam after the rains...
Program: Sandy Buechley introduced engineer Paul Jenkins who proceeded to inform us about the state of the Matilija Dam. He focused on what the best and most cost effective way would be to take down the Dam with an intriguing slide presentation. He described several methods to remove the millions of cubic yards of sediment behind the dam and concluded that a few well-placed explosives might do the trick. Silt happens!
1:30 President Bill rang the bell to signify the end of another great meeting!
Coming Up Next Week: Ojai Living Treasures
Final Thoughts:
Hatred paralyzes life love releases it. Hatred confuses life love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life love illumines it.
