In the beginning....

President Bill welcomed all for attending, and giving up their time from this beautiful spring-like day in Ojai.  With the bell rung, Frank Finck led the flag salute, and Al West gave a stirring Invocation.

With today being St. Patricks Day, Bill then started the meeting by thanking those who made it possible.  Matt, Bill Prather, and Bryant for set-up.  Greeters Michael Scar & Fred Coleman.  Al West & Frank for the traditional.  Tony Thacher for front desk, and Mike Malone for Editor. Last but not least, Ginger for todays meal.

Catherine Lee joined us from Carpinteria.  Sandy Buechley brought our guest speaker, Tania Parker and her husband Tobias, from Ojai Valley Land Conservancy.  Al West introduced his three sons, Chris, Scott, and Mike.  Also his wife Joyce.  Charley Thompson and Fred Coleman rounded out the guests.

Announcements:

Bill wanted us to know that scholarship applications are due today. Int’l. Svc. Committee meets next Tuesday.  District Training is on Sat. April 1st (no joke) in Oxnard. And, community grant applications are due by March 31st.  The winner of the Burma Shave contest was Lerie!  Suzanne announced the date of Taste of Ojai, Sunday, October 22nd.  Marty said there is still time to see the NHS production of Grease.  Dave Brubaker will be next years program director, so please let him know what you want to hear.

Upcoming Programs:

Patricia Anderson announced that next week we will get to meet the cast from NHS “Steel Magnolias” who will present a scene from the play.  5th Friday will be at Bob Davis home.

Confessions & Fining:

Marty Pops started off with Al West who was the proud papa with his 3 sons here for a few days. Oh, and he brought Joyce too!  Lerie admitted she got the Burma Shave jingle from her childhood memory. Nick had an engagement anniversary. Frank had multiple confessions, and has a grandson in the Czech Republic who needs an exchange student from Ojai who he can swap with for a short while. FINING! Surprise questions about Ireland and St. Patrick's Day garnered several right answers and some not so right.

The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy

Sandy introduced Tania Parker, a local girl who left Ojai, and came back to become the Director of Advancement for the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy.  Tania brought us up to date on all the new programs and inclusions that the OVLC is doing.  She shared slides of local trails and spoke of the dedication from the many volunteers the OVLC relies on to keep the work going.  Wildflowers are in full bloom, and she encouraged everyone to get out and hike.
