In The Beginning...

On a warm and sunny summer day, Ojai Rotarians gathered for fellowship and service.  President Bill convened the meeting to order at 12:15.  Bill thanked the people who made the meeting possible, especially Ginger, without whom lunch would be grim indeed.  We had two visiting Rotarians:  Bruce Jugan from Montebello and Therese Brown from Woodland.  We also had two guests:  Fred Coleman and Lale Walsh.

Fining with Judy Gabriel

Judy did an excellent job of extracting donations by asking a series of questions about the intimate details of the life of our next President, Michael Owen Malloy.  Judy asked questions about Mike’s marriage, driving record, employment history, childhood.  These questions were sufficiently obscure that Judy was able to extract a lot of money in only a few moments.

Program:  Author Jacqueline Windspear

Jackie Windspear is the author of the NYTimes bestselling Maisie Dobbs series.  Jackie gave a fascinating look into her life and family history and how that history became kindling for her creative work.  Jackie focuses on the period encompassing WWI and WWII where Maisey serves as a battlefield nurse.  Jackie is particularly interested in the psychology of the women who had to adjust to the upheavals in society brought about by war.

Judging from the quiet concentration of the Rotarians during her talk, I would speculate that Jackie will sell a lot more books in Ojai.
