In the beginning...
This past Friday, October 14th, Co-president Kay Bliss called the meeting to order where we welcomed our fellow club members for our first ever: Technology and you club meeting.
This week’s invocation was sourced from the Stanford Social Review: “What is Community?”
‘Community’ is so easy to say. The word itself connects us with each other. It describes an experience so common that we never really take time to explain it. It seems so simple, so natural, and so human.
In the social sector, we often add it to the names of social innovations as a symbol of good intentions (for example, community mental health, community policing, community-based philanthropy, community economic development).
But the meaning of community is complex.
First and foremost, community is not a place, a building, or an organization; nor is it an exchange of information [with like minded people] over the Internet. Community is both a feeling and a set of relationships among people. People form and maintain communities to meet common needs.
Members of a community have a sense of trust, belonging, safety, and caring for each other. They have an individual and collective sense that they can, as part of that community, influence their environments and each other.”
That is why I’m here today, and why I’m glad to be a part of this Rotary community.
Kay then thanked:

Kay Bliss then reminded the club that our next “Something Different” 4th Friday will be a community service project at Help of Ojai’s 370 Baldwin Road campus at 12 noon on Friday, October 28th. Lunch will NOT be provided so come fed or bring your own lunch. Please reach out to Kay if you have not already signed-up. She assures us that there will be no heavy lifting.

THIS WEEK’S PROGRAM
Technology and You - Marty Babayco
You, our members, told us through our recent focus groups that interaction and communication with the club through digital technology is a top priority. Yet, our surveys from last week indicated our limited experience using our own webpage on ClubRunner. Today we’d like to change that.
What is ClubRunner?
- ClubRunner is Rotary International sanctioned software that allows each Rotary Club to make their own webpage, to use it as a member data storage, communication tool, provide a place for Rotary news, and be connected to Rotary International data.
What we learned?
- During this week’s program we learned to access and use ClubRunner webpage, how to login, find the and use the calendar and upcoming programs, how to locate other Rotarians in our directory, and how to make payments online. If we have time, we will download the ClubRunner Mobile app for your phone and have some time for other tech questions.
- To help us today, self-described “experts,” Terry Beckett, Carl Gross, Kevin Davis, Sean McDermott and Bryant Huber were made available to help guide members through the time we spent with ClubRunner.
If you missed last week’s tech session, or if you just need a little more one-on-one help, please reach out to Sean McDermott.
This week’s Life Hack
“Don’t be afraid to ask a question that may sound stupid because 99% of the time everyone else is thinking of the same question and is too embarrassed to ask it.”
