In the Beginning...
President Cheree Edwards rang the bell to commence the meeting. Jack Jacobs led us in the flag salute and Bryant Huber gave us a thoughtful invocation:
Every morning over the breakfast table or on the way to work, my family takes turns saying out loud, the things for which we are most grateful. Water, warm food, shelter, and soft beds. Safety, sunshine, rain, our health, our happiness and joys. Most of all we are grateful for the time we have been gifted with family and friends.
It is easy to always be looking for the next thing. A bigger house, a nicer car, a new TV, the next purchase from Amazon. The next success, the next milestone, the weekend, retirement...always the next thing.
But today and everyday I would ask that everyone please take at least take five minutes to stop. To pause with deep intention. To look around at all the blessings and riches we enjoy every day and to be grateful. To be thankful and take note of what is right there in front of us.
My grandpa was a very poor dairy farmer with some acreage he cared for in Michigan. But he made his own schedule every day, worked in nature, and in the earth, and had a loving wife and 8 loving children. My Dad always told me that Grandpa Bernie was the richest man he ever knew...I finally understand.
Then we escorted our guests and ourselves to the buffet for lunch.
President Cheree rang the bell again to thank Fred Coleman for setting up the room for our meeting, Mike Weaver and Wendy Barker for warmly greeting all of our members and guests, Bob Davis/Bryant Huber for the roving mike, Don Reed for manning the front table, Suzanne Scar for serving as our Reminder Editor and Ginger Case for lunch!
