November is Rotary Foundation Month
Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

In the Beginning...
On a splendid autumn afternoon, at the precise time of 12:15,
President Cheree sprinted into the room and invited Rotarians to fellowship and service.  Bill Gilbreth led the flag salute and Betsy Watson’s invocation expressed gratitude to the firefighters protecting our community.  We had one visiting Rotarian, Ellie Raspini.

Taste of Ojai Recap

President Cheree asked Matt to give a preliminary recap of the Taste of Ojai.  While the final accounting won’t be done for a week or so, the initial estimate is that the event will produce almost $50k in profits, a significant increment over previous years.  Matt and his team received a standing ovation for their achievements.  Additionally Matt was named “Rotarian of the Month”. With presentation of the "Parachute Award". Well done Matt! For some pics of this great event, click here and the "start slideshow" button.

New Rotarian:  Dr. Tiffany Morse

We welcomed the new OUSD Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Morse as a Rotarian.  Deirdre Daly, Jack Jacobs and her mentor Betsy Watson presided over the Induction.  Tiffany has had an interesting professional and a rich personal life prior to coming to Ojai.  She has already made a significant impact on OUSD and we look forward to working with her to make the District even better.  Welcome Tiffany!

Announcements:

Mike Weaver recommended a movie playing at the Ojai Film Festival:  Variables.  The movie deals with the trials of a young mathematician living in Sarajevo during the Milosovich period.
Bill Prather announced that his ancient manual transmission BMW 528 has returned to life with the transfusion of  an amount of money greater than the value of the car.  Love is indeed blind.
Bill Gilbreth is anticipating that his son Conway will sport a new look when he returns from college.

Fining:  Christine Golden

Christine achieved a rare 100% success during her fining session.  Every person she called upon had to cough up some loot.  This haul was the result of Christine’s twisted and obscure word games.  Well done Christine!

Program:  Robert Rosenburg

Bill Gilbreth introduced Robert Rosenburg from the Simi Sunrise Rotary Club.

Robert then gave an uplifting account of his experiences with Rotary.  Of particular importance:

A Rotary scholarship helped him when he needed it

In a roundabout way, he got to the Obama Whitehouse as an intern

He worked to improve Uganda’s justice system

He summed up his life philosophy as “Choices/Chances/Change”
