Ojai Rotary Reminder Newsletter
October 11th, 2024

Christine Fenn, Editor

October is Community Economic Development Month
Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.4 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

Inspirational Moment

Sue Gilbreth for today’s invocation, I was reminded of how much our own Dr. Bob Skankey has done internationally to improve women's health and save lives, when I came across the writings of late 19th/early 20th c. Author and activist Charlotte Perkins Gilman.  She denounced as incomplete the kind of feminism that ignored women in poverty in the following poem “To the Indifferent Women” (excerpt below), and instead advocated that only with "peace for all" would peace be real.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman“To the Indifferent Women A mother’s care is the first step toward friendly human life.

Life where all nations in untroubled peace Unite to raise the standard of the world and make the happiness, we seek in homes Spread everywhere in strong and fruitful love.

Leaders create the culture. Information should be upward flowing; this is usually not the case. There must be Trust which leads to better productivity and quality of product (or outcome).

The Objective: Where do we fall short? Look at the top 4 or 5 Best and poorest in your industry and study those, Great topic, thank you Tom.

Please send Wendy your recommendations for a book, movie, quote, etc.
