Tribute to Dr. Bob Skankey
Mike Weaver, Kay Bliss, Carl Gross and Leslie Clark each gave heartfelt and grateful recollections of Bob Skankey in his many and varied acts of generosity and service. Here are just a few highlights of Bob’s service as a Rotarian:
Mike described Bob’s life of service above self and his generosity in donating to the RCOEF.
Dr. Gross described work at the clinic in Roatan, where Rotary has had a clinic for 24 years. Carl told an anecdote which illustrated Bob’s dedication and ingenuity. When the clinic ran out of supplies used to detect cervical cancer, Bob devised an effective alternative using simple vinegar.
Leslie Clark aptly described Bob as“humanitarian, healer, hero” for his work with the Nomads of Niger.
Kay Bliss described Bob as a true family man and a physician with a wonderful way with people. Kay described how she felt lucky to have Bob as her physician when she suffered from cancer.
Program: Lanny Kaufer
On the anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King, Lanny Kaufer described his time working in the Civil Rights Movement. He framed his talk by recounting key events in the movement, from the 1954 passage of Brown vs. Board of Education through the 1964 passage of the Civil Rights Act.
