In the Beginning...

At 12:10 President Michael Malone rang the bell to commence the November 10 meeting.

Alex Kim led us in the flag salute and Lerie Bjornstedt gave us a thoughtful invocation.  Then we escorted our guests and ourselves to the buffet for a delicious lunch buffet.

At 12:30 President Michael rang the bell to thank all of our veterans for their service to our country.  As they stood up we recognized them with warm applause.  Then Pres Mike thanked  Bob Roddick and his team for setting up the room for our meeting, Mike Weaver and Suzanne Scar for warmly greeting all of our members and guests, Alex Kim for the roving mic, Don Reed for manning the front table and Suzanne Scar for serving as our Reminder Editor.  Thank you Ginger Case for lunch!

 

Visiting Rotarians and Guests

Our guests this week were Nubey (Tony Thacher’s cousin), Bill Huber (Bryant’s dad), Marilyn Lyon (John’s wife), Gwen (Charlie Boyd’s wife), and our speaker Will Garlington.

The Nordhoff students presented L.I.V.E. (Leadership Through International Volunteer Expeditions).  They are holding a garage sale on Dec. 9 and are looking for donations.  Kay Bliss can help you if you are interested.  Their service project is to help create a sustainable standard of living for the indigenous Bribri tribe in Costa Rica.  Bob Daddi donated $100 and challenged club members to do the same.

 

 

 

Carl Gross undated the club on the Honduran medical Clinic project in Roatan.  This project began 15 years ago and gets stronger through your help.  Thank you Carl and the other club members that participate!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Boyd Ford was presented with the Membership Emeritus Award by John Lyon, after a very impressive biography of Boyd’s life.  Boyd has been a member of our club since 1964, the longest living member of our club!

The Holiday Party – Mark your Calendars for Dec. 4 (Monday) from 5:30-9:00 p.m. at the Ojai Valley Inn!  Check your emails for further details!  

Because of the length of our announcements, Johnny Johnston’s fining session was put off for another week – stay tune to what will probably be a VERY entertaining session!

Program:  Will Galington--Religious History of the Middle East

Kay Bliss introduced Will Garlington as the speaker on Religious history in the Middle East.  Will gave a captivating scenario on the conflict between the Sunni and Shia Islam history.  Handouts were on every table so that we could keep up with the historic events that shaped the current state of the Islamic religion.  Thanks, Will for a timely and informative presentation.
