Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.
Welcome to our favorite Rotary Club in the world! Substituting for our president, Sue, will be Wendy Barker.

Kevin Wallace of the Beatrice Wood Center
. Kevin came to work as the founding director of the Happy Valley Foundation Cultural Center, Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts, 20 years ago with the task of creating the center that is now part of the 500 acre piece of land in Upper Ojai that belongs to the foundation. Thru a series of photos, Kevin showed us how he created the gallery, museum and a living studio that was once Beatrice Wood's home.
Kevin's interest in the 'Dada Movement', the idea of taking something and making it art (leading to the first of what is now called conceptual art) led him to his interest in Beatrice Wood. After reading her book, "I Shock Myself' he arranged to meet her and have the book signed. He was impressed and describes her as very generous and quite flirty which he found to be fun.
Kevin went on to talk about the people who influenced Miss Wood and became an important part of her life. Krishnamurti and Annie Besant were two of these people. They were also the founders of the existing school run by the Happy Valley Foundation, Besant Hills School.
Kevin closed his speech by saying that Art is Language and that the center continues on with workshops, performance arts, exhibitions and music.
The meeting was adjourned after Kevin took questions and was given a bag of fruit from Friend's Ranch.
You are invited to visit us at an upcoming meeting.
