My artist life

Artist James Robie studied with Richard Diebenkorn at UCLA in the 1960s and later studied at Yale where he got both BA and MFA degrees. After graduation, Robie worked at Tomkins Tooling where he worked on projects with artists Robert Rauschenberg, Claes Oldenburg, and Roy Lichtenstein among others. 

A prolific artist, his paintings, sculpture, and photography have been exhibited in New York City and Los Angles, and Connecticut. A 40-year retrospective of his work was exhibited at the Cal State Northridge Art Gallery.

He ran his own graphic design firm for decades working with a variety of clients. This included 250 projects for the 1984 Olympic games and corporate design for Fortune 500 companies. His work has appeared in numerous design books. From 1992-1997 he was a design instructor at the Otis College of Art and Design in LA. After moving to Ojai he joined the Ojai Studio Artists.
