The Rotary Club of Ojai believes that strong communities depend on the ability to talk with one another — even when we disagree. At a time when public conversations can feel increasingly heated, our Peace Committee is inviting the community to explore a different approach: how to discuss difficult issues while still treating one another with dignity and respect.

Having Hard Conversations: Disagreeing with Dignity
The Rotary Club of Ojai is proud to be home to members with a wide range of professions, experiences, and viewpoints. That diversity is one of the strengths of Rotary — and it also reminds us how important it is to talk with one another respectfully, even when we disagree.
At a time when public conversations can often feel more heated and less productive, the Rotary Club of Ojai’s Peace Committee, led by Amy and Bill Warlick, is hosting a community event focused on improving the tone of civic dialogue.
We are honored to welcome Tami Pyfer, co-creator of the Dignity Index, a nonpartisan tool developed by Dignity.us that helps people evaluate and improve the way we speak about one another in public conversations.
Following her presentation, a panel of Ojai civic leaders — including Mayor Andy Gilman, Police Chief Tyler Abbott, publisher Laura Rearwin Ward, school board member Atticus Reyes, nonprofit leader Jim Bailey, and artist and peacebuilder Brian Berman — will discuss how the ideas behind the Dignity Index can strengthen dialogue in our own community.
